common ground Peace Corps Memorial
Updated: Oct 3, 2022
Narrative:
This project is a Commemorative Work for the Peace Corps.
Form and Spatial Narrative:
The intent of the design is to translate the verbal description into an architectural language.
The Peace Corps is an organization composed of ordinary people who volunteer for public service to live and work alongside people from other countries to create common ground for the open exchange of practical solutions for a more peaceful world.
This project is meant to suggest: humility, empathy, altruism, compassion, freedom, equality, pragmatism, and tranquility as a spatial experience for the visitors to the site.
This project is made of individual, simple forms whose geometries are resolved with similar shapes surrounded by an expanding space. This shelter is a structure composed of a roof without walls with a single level floor carved into the landscape and adapted to the site and made of polished concrete over a water feature.
